Hot sauce is a sauce made from chili peppers that adds an extra amount of spice and heat to any meal. Every possible combination of ingredients is available on the marketplace today. Vinegar, salt and chili peppers are the typical ingredients in a hot sauce from the United States. The most common types of peppers used are cayenne, jalapeno, chipotles, and habaneros. A process similar to the aging of wine is used in the aging of some hot sauces. Fruit and vegetables are used to thicken the consistency of the sauce and mellow the heat of the chilis.
